(Hot Springs) The Sunshine Therapeutic Riding Center (STRC) and The Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce excitedly hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday, May 28th officially opening its doors to clients and their families in need of equine-assisted therapy services. Special guests, including supporting partner-KidSource Therapy, were present to celebrate the official launch of the Riding Center. Executive Director, Katja Summerlin announced the opening of the STRC at the ribbon cutting and spoke about the planned vision coming to life. "This has been a long-time coming for us, seeing kids on horseback and seeing them hitting milestones from day one. It is such a validation of all of the hard work we have put in." STRC launched an 8-week pilot program in April 2021 with 7 young participants riding on 5 trained horses including Scrim the Pony (named in honor of Officer Scrimshire of Hot Springs). The Riding Center is hosting a Fall Semester session beginning September 13th through the end of November 2021. STRC is also hosting a Volunteer Orientation & Training on August 28th and September 4th for those interested in helping young riders during their therapy sessions. STRC will host a Southern Soiree at The Reserve scheduled for Saturday evening, October 23rd, 2021, to support their growing equine-assisted therapy program. Details about this event will be announced soon. For those persons interested in equine-assisted therapeutic service, volunteer opportunities, or a way to help support the Riding Center, please visit the STRC website for contact information. www.sunshineridingcenter.org
