Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Gary Troutman, left, and 2018 Chamber Chairman Mark Curry present Jackie Arrison with Woman of the Year. Jackie Arrison believes those who serve on a committee or a board should go beyond doing so in name only. The 2018 Woman of the Year not only holds several leadership positions, but also spends countless hours working for the betterment of the community. Arrison is the Vice President for Development and Marketing at Levi Hospital. In addition to her normal daily duties, Arrison coordinates volunteer opportunities not only for herself but for fellow employees at Levi. “I was truly surprised when I received this award!” she said in response to being named the 2018 Woman of the Year. “It was an honor to be nominated and equally flattering to be nominated along with so many wonderful women who do so many great things in our community.” “I was over the moon when it was my name that was called! Even though I don’t volunteer my time or serve the organizations that I am a part of to receive recognition, it is very nice to receive such an honor and to know that your efforts are appreciated. It’s pretty awesome to be named Woman of the Year!” During 2018 Arrison logged many volunteer hours through the hospital as well as coordinated volunteer efforts of others. She recruited volunteers and volunteered herself to help numerous events throughout the year including the Van Davis 5K, Relay for Life, Du for the Parks, and the Christmas Parade. In addition to volunteering for community events through her work, Arrison also serves as program chair for the Oaklawn Rotary Club and logs several volunteer hours through Rotary. Serving on the Executive Board for the United Ways of the Ouachitas, Arrison also participated in several fundraisers and activities that make an impact on the Hot Springs community. “It has always been my nature to sign up and volunteer as long as I can remember,” she said. “It’s just who I am. Volunteering offers vital help to people in need, worthwhile causes, and the community, but the benefits can be even greater for you, the volunteer. The more we give, the happier we feel. While you are working and doing good for others, you naturally feel a sense of accomplishment, which is a good feeling.” In her job at Levi, Arrison coordinates and motivates employees to participate in volunteer activities on behalf of the hospital. These volunteer hours are a way for employees to give back to the community and raise funds for other non-profit organizations. In 2018 Levi employees logged more than 400 volunteer hours. However one volunteer event Arrison coordinated, was special to her and her coworkers. A fellow employee at Levi was approved for a home with Habitat for Humanity. She needed help in reaching her volunteer hours requirement as a new homeowner. Arrison gathered a group of 12 individuals, some coworkers, some family, that worked from 8 a.m. to noon one Saturday to help put siding on the home. Arrison has lived in Hot Springs for the past 26 years and considers Hot Springs home. Before working at Levi, she was the Chief Operations Officer at the Greater Hot Springs Chamber of Commerce for seven years, where she served in many state and regional roles within the Chamber industry. She spent much of her early career in the hospitality industry, working at hotels, convention centers and local attractions. She has been a member of Oaklawn Rotary Club for the past 12 years and served as the club’s president in 2015. She has also served on the United Way of the Ouachitas Board for the past 12 years. Arrison and her husband, Steve, have been married for 12 years and collectively have five children, a daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren. A firm believer in finding balance in life, she purposefully makes time for her family, friends, job, and herself. Overexerting one’s self will most likely lead to a person not being as effective as they can be or should be in any one or more areas that are important to a life full of joy and happiness, she said.
